A love letter, best of the best 2011, and a whole lot of awesomeness01.06.12

To my dearest Adam,

Do you remember that day back in college before we started dating when you came into my office at the newspaper and told me you had been asked to quit photography? Do you remember what I said? God had given you the ability to tell people’s stories through a lens in a very unique and beautiful way and that gift needs to be shared with the world. I then demanded that you not quit… Is that when you decided to ask me out on a date? ;)

I think its safe to say that you made a really good decision by sticking with photography. And even through all of the hurtles, road blocks, and brick walls we faced this past year and the parts of 2011 we would love to forget, we have to remember there were SO many amazing parts we shared together. The year ended on such an amazing note and the first week of the new year is looking AMAZING!

This past year you took your photography to a whole new level. Words cannot describe how extremely proud and blown away I am by the work you have produced. There is only one way to go from here and that’s UP. We can’t look back on the past we have to continue to grow and look ahead to what the future has in store for us.

This week the industry took notice as well. Out of 5,000 entries only 50 photos were chosen as the “best wedding photos of the year,” by Junebug Weddings and your photo was among them. Can you believe it? Your photo was among images from some of the world’s best wedding photographers, some of whom we are lucky enough to call our friends. You are a part of Junebug’s Best of the Best for 2011! And since you have such a hard time bragging about yourself, I’ll do it for you!

So, today we’ll celebrate you (and a little bit of me ;) ) and some of our awesome features we’ve had the last few months! I can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with this year… our couples are going to be SO ecstatic!

Love always, Imthiaz

Louann & Corey: Wedding12.07.10

When we first caught wind that Louann and Corey were going to get married Adam and I went into planning overdrive. This weekend was going to be epic… for us. Louann isn’t just anyone, she is Adam’s cousin. The wedding would be in Kansas which has been home for Adam’s family for years. So, there wouldn’t just be a wedding, there would also be a family reunion of sorts.

Of course for us Houseman’s it meant a family road trip was in order. We hopped in the car and headed to Kansas over Halloween weekend. This trip held a lot of firsts for us. Zoe’s first wedding, Zoe meeting many of her cousins,  and Zoe finally meeting Grandma Lou and Grandpa in “real” life not just over skype. And, of course there is Adam shooting a wedding (as a professional) with the film camera he first learned on 16 years ago. Grandpa just had to pull it out of the cabinet and give it to us the day before the wedding. Thanks Grandpa!

The weekend was always supposed to be about Louann and Corey, but it ended up being a celebration of family for us. Weddings always bring family together and we know that better than anyone. But, for us to be able to document the weekend, and do it as only we know how to do, meant more to us than anything.

Here’s to Grandpa Cox. Grandma Lou wearing blue at EVERY wedding. The late nights.  Crazy uncle Timber.  Scaring people in the hall of a sleeping hotel. Cousins that will love each other forever. Laughter and then some more laughter. More weddings (Eric and Tish hint hint). More grand kids. More family reunions, and of course Louann and Corey. We wish you and Louann all the luck in the world for a beautiful life together.

Cheers,

The Houseman’s

P.S. what would a great weekend be without a SLIDE SHOW. Make sure you check it out!

Daddy's Girl…09.20.10

Its the way she calls his name when he walks into the door. Its the way her face lights up anytime she talks to him. Its the sound of his voice at night when he reads a book to her. Its the way he can get her to be natural in front of the camera.

She is completely head over heels about Adam and its no secret… she is a daddy’s girl.

Happy Monday!

The end of summer…08.09.10

Last week we had another feature. This time it was Wei and Vicky featured on Brenda’s Wedding Blog. They had a beautiful wedding and make a photographer’s job so easy! We really appreciate, and are very grateful, when any of our work is featured. Make sure you go and check out the feature and leave a little blog love!

Oh Monday… you creeped up on me like Saturday and Sunday were non-existent. We are officially in the home stretch we have 10 days until school starts. Summer vacation is over and soon it will be fall. To be honest, I’m not ready for summer to be over. Our little girl is growing up and making a big decision. One big decision will be her hair. Zoe is insistent that her hair will be cut before school starts. She loves her long hair, but is ready for a change. It will be the very first haircut for Zoe, so stayed tuned for some new photos of her.

Happy Monday! :)

Our life through iPhone…07.23.10

They all looked at us like we were crazy. Their jaws dropped to the ground and then they asked the same questions we got all summer. “Your not car camping? Zoe is hiking? What does she do? There’s no cooler for food?”  We answered those questions the same way we did all summer. We tried car camping at the beginning of the summer for one night. We ended up in the car at 3 a.m. Zoe was cold, angry, and uninterested in camping. Recently we have been taking her on small day hikes here and there, but only for a few hours each time.

And then it came. Our big camping trip. We hiked deep into the wilderness and slept in a tent. Between mosquitoes bites, sunburns, and melt downs every 2 hrs during the hikes we had our first Houseman backpacking trip. You never know how strong your child is until you put them in a situation where there is no turning back.

The first day was 4.5 miles. The second day was also 4.5 miles. Zoe was mostly entertained by the fish guts, horses, and other hikers. All of the hikers we ran into were so impressed by Zoe, in all cases she was the youngest person they had ever seen in the backcountry. She made s’mores and played in dirt loving every minute of it. When she decided she was no longer interested in camping we explained to her that there were two options: hike out like we did coming in, or hike 9 miles the last day… She chose to hike 9 miles the last day.

Zoe is amazing. I envy her strength. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all peachy the last day, but its a trip we will never forget. Here is our life camping via iPhone.
