The end of summer…

Last week we had another feature. This time it was Wei and Vicky featured on Brenda’s Wedding Blog. They had a beautiful wedding and make a photographer’s job so easy! We really appreciate, and are very grateful, when any of our work is featured. Make sure you go and check out the feature and leave a little blog love!

Oh Monday… you creeped up on me like Saturday and Sunday were non-existent. We are officially in the home stretch we have 10 days until school starts. Summer vacation is over and soon it will be fall. To be honest, I’m not ready for summer to be over. Our little girl is growing up and making a big decision. One big decision will be her hair. Zoe is insistent that her hair will be cut before school starts. She loves her long hair, but is ready for a change. It will be the very first haircut for Zoe, so stayed tuned for some new photos of her.

Happy Monday! :)

Our life through iPhone…

They all looked at us like we were crazy. Their jaws dropped to the ground and then they asked the same questions we got all summer. “Your not car camping? Zoe is hiking? What does she do? There’s no cooler for food?”  We answered those questions the same way we did all summer. We tried car camping at the beginning of the summer for one night. We ended up in the car at 3 a.m. Zoe was cold, angry, and uninterested in camping. Recently we have been taking her on small day hikes here and there, but only for a few hours each time.

And then it came. Our big camping trip. We hiked deep into the wilderness and slept in a tent. Between mosquitoes bites, sunburns, and melt downs every 2 hrs during the hikes we had our first Houseman backpacking trip. You never know how strong your child is until you put them in a situation where there is no turning back.

The first day was 4.5 miles. The second day was also 4.5 miles. Zoe was mostly entertained by the fish guts, horses, and other hikers. All of the hikers we ran into were so impressed by Zoe, in all cases she was the youngest person they had ever seen in the backcountry. She made s’mores and played in dirt loving every minute of it. When she decided she was no longer interested in camping we explained to her that there were two options: hike out like we did coming in, or hike 9 miles the last day… She chose to hike 9 miles the last day.

Zoe is amazing. I envy her strength. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t all peachy the last day, but its a trip we will never forget. Here is our life camping via iPhone.

Spicing it up.

Everyday its like clock work. We meet in the kitchen as if we were thinking the exact same thing…. What’s for dinner? Dinner time is our favorite time of the day, all three of us in the kitchen cooking together. Nine times out of 10 all of us will jump in the car and head to Whole Foods. We walk up to the meat counter and everyone says “hey Adam… what’s for dinner?” As we browse the meat case we try to decide what kind of mood we’re in. Chicken or fish is always the question.

Right now, we trying out a different spice combo. A combination of curry spices and garlic and a little something special. I cross my fingers for the day my mom will try it and actually be impressed by what her daughter put together. As much as I try, I could never be as amazing in the kitchen as my mom is.

Until then, Adam and Zoe can be my taste testers. Now the big question of the day is what’s for dinner?

In case your curious, the photo was taken with my iPhone.

In Dreams…

I day dream all the time. I imagine what it would be like to walk into a book store and pick up a wedding magazine and see our images all over inside it.  Its not something that’s new to me, I always have the latest issues of wedding magazines, and its the first section I go too when I visit the book store. To say I’m a bit obsessed with weddings is an understatement.

But still… Sometimes I day dream of the day when I pick up a magazine and flip through it only to find one of our weddings in it. I day dream of the day when Adam and I are published in a magazine. Our work out there in print. Our work in an actual publication, in a medium that was once so familiar to us.

Until then… I’ll keep my fingers crossed and enjoy our little bit of luck. Recently, Rocky Mountain Bride magazine used one of our images and we are thrilled.
