My love affair with New Orleans started in college. I loved the city, the culture, the food, and the architecture. I will never forget when my parents went down to New Orleans and came back with one of the craziest stories. My parents were walking through the French Quarter and saw Emeril Lagasse leaving one of his restaurants. My mom started running down the street screaming his name. This is when I knew the people of New Orleans were special because not everyone would wait for some crazy lady running down the street screaming their name. He waited for her and they chatted in front of his restaurant. He made my mom’s year and he knew it.

The morning that Hurricane Katrina hit I watched the events unfold on television as so many others did. I sat in my bed at the hospital and cried. I cried over the next 3 days. As I brought our daughter into the world over 1,800 people lost their lives. The city I had grown to love now faced the loss of their homes, families and businesses. It wouldn’t be until 2008 when Adam and I would be able to go to New Orleans for Nicole and Steven’s wedding.

Adam fell in love with the city as I had so many years ago. We have tried  to find any excuse to go back over the past couple years. We have driven and flown to New Orleans and have loved every minute of our many journeys to the bayou. Zoe loves New Orleans and keeps talking about moving there. We have adopted this city, the people, the food, and the culture. Our last trip down there was for Robert and Shantell’s wedding and it was one of the best experiences we have had.

Today New Orleans will welcome back the Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints, and just days away will start celebrating Mardi Gras. Today we are inspired by our couples who’s lives we have been a part of. We are inspired by a city we love, and a city that deserves every bit of fame right now. We love you NOLA.
