Shantell & Robert: New Orleans Day After12.31.09

When Shantell was growing up in Louisiana she would day dream about getting married. In her dream she would be walking down an oak alley with her husband. She grew up minutes away from one of the prettiest and oldest plantations in Louisiana. Her dream came true. After Shantell and Robert’s wedding in Etses Park we all headed down to New Orleans for their down home wedding celebration.

Over the course of 3 days we hung out with Shantell, Robert, and their family. As they let their guards down Adam and I were able to see a different side of New Orleans. We saw where Shantell grew up and where she went to school. We were able to shoot in places where most people would not be able too. We became a part of Shantell’s and Robert’s family. This was the perfect end to a perfect year.

Thank you Shantell and Robert…

Miriel & Josh: Colorado Engagement12.18.09

When Adam and I started dating in college it was easy. We had been friends for awhile, so there was not any awkward dates or conversations. We hung out all the time because we worked together. He was the photo editor at the Metropolitan, and I was the sports editor. We would cover most all of the games together at Metro State College so we could hang out.

Fall sports were fun to cover, the weather was always beautiful and Metro’s mens soccer team was nationally ranked. Josh was the assistant coach at Metro at the time. Fast forward a few years later, Josh is now the head coach at Mesa State College.

Out for a night with the guys Josh spots a girl. He sees that she is with another guy and he thinks to himself, first date, that’s got to be the first date… The guy walks off and Miriel is by herself, Josh goes over and starts flirting with her. They exchange flirtations and go about their night, thinking they will never see each other again.

Fate steps in and finds them both out again the next night. Josh approaches Miriel and asks, “how was your first date last night?” Miriel looks at him surprised and asks him how he knew it was a first date. “Guys always act like dorks on the first date and he was acting like a dork.” Josh was right Miriel was on a first date and never saw the guy again because dating Josh was easy, there was no awkward dates or conversations.

Their wedding is only a few weeks away, it will be the first wedding of 2010 for us. Until then, enjoy the highlights from Miriel and Josh’s engagement session…

Please Vote for Me (Imthiaz)!12.16.09

When I was in 8th grade I started playing basketball. I was not very good. Actually I was pretty awful. One day I asked my dad if I was good… actually that’s not the truth, I said “I’m really good, aren’t I?” Well if you know my dad or me, we are very honest people. My sister and I were raised to be honest, and say what’s on our mind. Well my dad decided that was the perfect time to burst my bubble. “Imthiaz. Sorry to burst your bubble, but your are not good!” I was crushed, hurt, and I wanted to cry. How dare my father tell me I was not good. So, being your typical pre-teen drama filled girl, I cried and cried some more. My dad explained to me that I have to work hard at everything. I was not a natural talent, but I worked really hard.

That philosophy carried over to everything. It got me into college playing basketball and made me a better person. I have always been my toughest critic and if I see something I am not good at I make it better. This is why Adam and I are so competitive. We always give each other constructive criticism, and when we go out there we try to out-do the other person. We do it to prove the point“I bet next time you won’t say that too me.”

You might remeber our trip to New Orleans. Adam had the opportunity to learn from Mike Colon attending his Seven Workshop. Well, the time has arrived. Mike plans on giving away a scholarship to one lucky person for the next Seven Workshop in Honolulu. This time there will be no jealously. This time it will be about me learning from Mike Colon. I have admired his work for years and I really want to go. Adam’s life did really change learning from Mike. I never thought one person would have made such a HUGE impression on Adam, but Mike did.

Since Adam attended Mike’s workshop his work is amazing, I know I may be biased, however, his work is truly incredible. I know that there is so much room for improvement and I know I can learn a great deal from this workshop. So, loyal blog readers… will you help me?

I need to go to this workshop and you can help. All you have to do is go to Mike Colon’s blog and find my photo, and VOTE FOR ME! Just two clicks. Voting started this morning and ends on Friday December 18, 2009 at 5pm pacific time. Thank you so much in advance. And since posts are WAY better with photos. Here’s a image I took of Zoe on our family road trip this past summer.
